The Cool Kids Craft Show is having a Valentine’s Day sale edition at House of Targ this Wednesday night from 6 to 11 pm and this time around it’ll feature pottery, vintage clothing, prints, screen printing, pins, guitar pedals and tarot card readings among other cool things.
The 6th instalment of the undercurrents festival,organized by the Ottawa Fringe team, is back at Arts Courts once again. This annual festival, which presents theatre below the mainstream, will feature nine shows between February 10 and February 20 including three world premieres.
While undercurrents solely presents English theatre, there’s a French play that’s particularly interesting and that’s being offered from February 10 to February 14 at the Léonard-Beaulne Studio on the University of Ottawa campus. The play, called Le lilas africain, is a translation of the original The Syringa Tree piece by Pamela Gien and is being presented for the very first time in French in Ottawa thanks to Théâtre de Dehors and artist Sasha Dominique.
The organizers of the Gatineau Festibiere are presenting the second edition of the Winter Brewfest to be held February 12 and 13 inside and outside at Lansdowne Park. This beer-lovers’ festival, featuring local breweries Beau’s, Beyond the Pale, Big Rig, and Kichesippi among others, will also include yummy eats courtesy of LOCAL Lansdowne and music by DJs Kid SL, Illo and more.
On Thursday night, the Avant Garde Bar presents the February edition of the Redrum Comedy show, a live comedy and music night featuring a lineup of local talent presenting performances filled with laughter and drama.
This Friday night at Pressed Cafe, Ottawa Explosion brings you Sackville, New Brunswick’s Partner. The alternative indie rock duo made up of Killer Haze alumni Lucy Niles and Josée Caron, will be performing live in the capital city alongside Ottawa ouija rockers The Yips and Ottawa emo punk/pop BB Cream
Cleveland, Ohio hardcore punks Vanilla Poppers will be making a stop in Ottawa this Friday, February 12. For the occasion, the band is giving a live show at Flapjack’s and sharing the stage with Otttawa rock n’ rollers Chloroform and Ogresse, who are giving their last show that night.
The 3rd annual edition of the Solos Going Steady show is going down at Irene’s Pub this Friday night. The evening, organized in support of the Ottawa Food Bank, will feature solo singer-songwriter style sets by local musicians Patrick Shanks, Jon Hynes, Elizabeth McDermott and Chris Page.
East Coast rapper Ghettosocks is hitting the road with some of his crew and giving a live show at Two Six Ate this Friday, February 12. This time around, the hip hop artist will be sharing the stage with The Extremities, Ambition and local hip hop heavyweights G.Grand and Hyf The GypsySun.
Over at the Mercury Lounge this Friday night, the Elle-P DJ Collective is presenting Break 4 Love, a night dedicated to showcasing female talent. This Valentine’s Day love affair will include break beats, a photo kissing booth, and love songs all night long. Your local heart breakers Plush, Aga, and Jas Nasty will be taking care of the beats while Matt Cameron brings you the visuals.
The Valentine’s Bae Edition of Girlz & Glam is going down this Friday night at Bablyon. For the occasion, the Grillz & Glam fam is dedicating the night to celebrating all the lovers in the 613. As per usual, local DJs Illo and Laocapone will be taking care of your musical needs and providing the soundtrack to your Vday.
If you’re not about Valentine’s Day, be sure to head over to the Heartbreak Hotel this Friday at Multi Social Room for a special edition of The Convo with DJs Mes and Frank Play fulfilling your musical needs all night long.
This Saturday, Zaphods and Hot Buttered Pop Cultured vintage shop bring you Bizarre Baazar, a Pop-Up Valentine’s Day event with lots of local and independent vendors gathered in one place. Vendors will be selling vintage pop culture, health products, sexy-time products, clothing, jewellery, decorative items and rad locally-made stuff.
Local folk singer-songwriter Craig Cardiff will be back at the Blacksheep Inn in Wakefield this Saturday, February 13 to give both an early show starting at around 4 pm and a late show happening at around 8:30 pm. If you haven’t seen the talented Ottawa-based musician perform live before, and even if you have, you should check him out. It’s a great Valentine’s Day date idea too.
