Starting the week in music, Ever Forthright, AURAS, Antlion, and Sawed-Off Shogun will be performing live at Cafe Dekcuf this Tuesday, August 13. The four progressive metal bands will be giving a show in Ottawa as part of the Do You Even Riff? Tour.
Another metal show happening this week in Ottawa is by Ottawa-Gatineau band Chariots of the Gods. The local death-thrash group will be performing live at the Rainbow Bistro on Wednesday, August 14 as part of the Ride The Tides Summer Tour. Chariots of the Gods will be joined on stage by symphonic extreme metal group Cryptik Howling and black thrash metal group Ceremonial for a night of straight-up metal.
On Thursday, August 15, Minnesota electro/synthpop group Owl City, who’s recently released The Midsummer Station Acoustic EP, will be performing live at the Algonquin Commons Theatre as part of the Midsummer Station World Tour. The Owl City project, lead by singer-songwriter and mutli-instrumentalist Adam Young, will be joined on stage by Los Angeles pop group Echosmith.
This Thursday, August 15, Ottawa-based group Cold Capital invites you to their EP Release Party, which is being held at Babylon. The local blues/roots/rock band will be performing tunes from their debut EP alongside special guests The AK-47s and The Ticket, also based out of the National Capital Region.
Through the National Gallery of Canada’s Sakahàn: International Indigenous Art exhibition, the Junior Curator Program presents Nigi Mikan: I Found It Indigenous Women’s identity photo and art exhibition on Friday, August 16. The exhibition,which is being held at Fall Down Gallery, will feature tasty delicacies by Wawatay Catering.
Legendary Jamaican singer-songwriter Beres Hammond will perform live at the Casino Lac-Leamy Theatre this Friday, August 16 as part of the One Love One Life Tour. The Carivibe Festival has joined forced with Harmony House Productions to present the reggae/rock musician live in concert. Hammond will be joined on stage by the Harmony House musicians and DJs Infero, Mace and Mikey Wizdom. This is a show that you really don’t want to miss if you’re a reggae music lover. While you’re at it, why don’t you rent a room at the Hilton Lac-Leamy and get prime seats for Saturday night’s Casino fireworks? Just a thought.
Also on Friday, August 16, We Were The Fires Of Rome, Heartless, and Terra Firma are performing live at Babylon. The three Ontario-based bands who play experimental/progressive and hardcore metal will be kicking off the show at around 9pm. What can I say, it’s a good week for metal heads in Canada’s capital city.
The August edition of Hip Hop Karaoke Ottawa is happening this Friday at the Mugshots Courtyard. As of now, the monthly event is being held outdoors for the summer season with your regular hosts DJ So Nice and Atherton. The August edition of Timekode is being held this Friday, August 16 at Eri Cafe, the usual spot. Resident sound selectors DJ Zattar and Memetic will be playing the best in soul while VJ Daisy provides accompanying visuals.
The Arboretum Arts Festival is back for a second edition after a successful first year. For 2013, Ottawa’s new music, food and arts festival is back in full force with 2 days of programming that include music by Roberta Bondar, Doldrums, Sarah Neufeld, NDMA, Boyhood, Camp Radio, Micheal Feuerstack, Fet.Nat, Flight Distance, Missing Linx, and Her Harbour among others. The lineup also includes Chef Sessions, a concert-like line-up of the city’s forward-thinking chef’s, who will be doling out small courses in 1-hour “sets”, media and art installations, a kids corner and free programming. Beer lovers won’t want to miss the second edition of the National Capital Craft Beer Festival taking place on August 16 and August 17 at Marion Dewar Plaza in front of the Ottawa City Hall. The now-annual festival allows you to discover the wide selection of craft brewed beers available across the National Capital Region. Thsi year’s programming also features mouth-watering culinary creations offered by artisanal eateries, a speaker series focusing on craft beer and artisanal food, and live musical entertainment presenting regional “Home-Brewed Talent”.
Ottawa’s annual LGBTQ pride celebration, dubbed Capital Pride, Ottawa’s most colorful festival, is taking place from August 16 to August 25 this year under the theme “Be Loud, Be Proud”. This important community celebration is returning to its Bank Street roots where the Capital Pride Parade will be held and where the newly renovated LGBT Village is fittingly located. Come enjoy a picnic while listening to music or watch the sunset as you let DJs DJF, Le Ferrailleur, Richard Stone, Mark Antoni and Doddy take you on an outdoor musical journey.
The Ottawa Wolves invite you to kick off this year’s Pride celebrations with them at Jocks ‘N Socks. You can bid your way to glory and walk away with one of the Wolves’ sexy jockstraps up for auction. That’s right, the team’s rugby players will be sporting jocks and showing off their assets to earn your bid. The event, taking place at Babylon this Saturday, August 17, will include live performances and bumping beats courtesy of DJ Dan Valin. Other events happening around the capital city this week that you should be aware of include the CapSlam Team Debut if you enjoy spoken word and poetry, a Woodstock in Timbuktu Documentary Screening being held at the Bytowne in support of the One World Film Festival, and the Flavor Factory’s King & Queen of the Scene breakdance battle.
You should also note that Bunchofuckingoofs, Last Of The V8 Interceptors and One Night Fux are performing live at Cafe Dekcuf on August 17 and that Privé is featuring DJ Miss Nine at Era on the same night.
