First up this week, for the hip-hop heads, the legendary Onyx performs live at Babylon this Wednesday, September 19 as part of the 100 Mad Tour. Starting this Wednesday, September 19 and running until  September 23 is the Ottawa International Animation Festival. The largest event of its kind in North America, this annual festival brings you the best in animation and screenings take place at the ByTowne Cinema, the National Gallery of Canada, the Empire Theatres Rideau Centre and the Arts Court Theatre. If you love karaoke and hip-hop music, then Mugshots bar is the place to be this Thursday, September 20 for the fourth edition of the Ottawa Hip Hop Karaoke. Hosts DJ So Nice and Atherton promise a night of fun with this twist on traditional karaoke that steps away from the conventional “mom n’ pop video screen bouncy ball read-a-long half-assed last-minute-plan-with-your-girlfriends-in-korea-town karaoke jam”. If you’re into the Polaris Music Prize, then you definitely want to head to Mercury Lounge this Thursday, September 20 at 7:00 pm to check out the Polaris Salon Shortlist Preview with panelists Guillaume Moffet, Alan Neal, Ryan Bresee and moderator Peter Simpson. If you’re interested in photography, you don’t want to miss the Ottawa Photography Festival also known as Festival X which takes place from September 20 to September 30. This year’s edition focuses around the theme Otherwise than Seeing: Photograph, Image, Representation. Festival-goers will get a change to visit various exhibitions at numerous sites around the city and partake in all sorts of activities throughout the 10-day event. This Friday, September 21, head over to Gatineau for the city’s Festival of World Cultures previously known as Festival Molokai. This 3-day festival, now in its 5th year, offers FREE shows and exhibitions for all. This Saturday, September 22 from sunset to sunrise is the first-ever Nuit Blanche (White Night) of Ottawa. This all-night event, which takes place annually in Montreal and Toronto as well as in many other cities around the world, is an opportunity for citizens to take in the city by-night and appreciate the arts and culture. For Nuit Blanche’s inaugural year, artists were asked to reflect on the theme La Vie est Belle / Life is Beautiful in their works. This is it Ottawa-Gatineau. This is your chance to get out there and appreciate the city’s arts and culture coming to life at night…! Don’t sleep and see you on the streets!
Also this Saturday, September 22, DNA Presents Swedish-electro-house-duo Dada Life at the CE Centre as part of the Dada Land Tour. Dada life will be back in Ottawa following their Escapade Festival set this past Summer and this time around they will perform with special guest Adrian Lux. Also this Saturday, September 22, The Souljazz Orchestra will be live in concert at Babylon Nightclub as part of the Solidarity International Tour. Known for their heavy soul, jazz, afro-latin sounds, the Ottawa-based group will perform alongside DJ Zattar. Grab all the details below!
Hip-hop heads into that dirty south sound unite for Big K.R.I.T. who’ll be stopping by the National Capital as part of his Live From the Underground Tour Part 2.
