Over in the Hull sector of Gatineau this Tuesday night, CHUO FM’s La Chasse will be broadcasting live from Le Troquet, as it’s been doing since September, only this time, it’ll feature a live performance by Big Balade, a groovy pop/funk outfit based out of Ottawa.
If you’re into punk music, then perhaps you’ll want to head to House of Targ this Wednesday, November 19 to see the live show featuring Portland, Oregon group Warcry, Ottawa punk rockers Silent Order, Seattle hardcore punk band ASILE and Massacre divine.
High Ends, the new indie music project of Jeffrey Innes of Yukon Blonde, will be making a stop in Ottawa this Wednesday, November 19 as part of a fall tour. The musician will be joined on stage at Mavericks by Saskatoon indie 4-piece Close Talker and Ottawa indie band The Gallop.
If you’re thing is more psych-rock, then be sure to make your way over to Cafe Dekcuf this Thursday night to check out Elephant Stone. The Montreal psych-rock band will be sharing the stage with Toronto psych-pop project The Auras and Montreal psych-rock group UUBBUURRUU.
For those of you who enjoy hip hop, this week two Canadian heavyweights will be in the National Capital. Nova Scotia hip hop artist Mike Boyd will be performing live at Ritual alongside Toronto alternative rapper D-Sisive as part of their Canadian Tour. For the occasion, they’ll be joined by artists Proper T, Happy Killmore, Diamond and OMH.
International house duo Bassjackers will be giving a live set inside Barrymores this Thursday, November 20 as part of the ‘X” Tour. The guys will be joined by Dutch DJ/Producer Dyro, who’s becoming a big player on the dance music scene.
From November 21 to November 23, Rahim, a fixture of Ottawa-Gatineau’s latin dance scene, is celebrating 7 years of salsa nights and workshops. For the occasion, he’s throwing a party at the Glebe Community Centre featuring some Canadian salsa masters as well as offering dance workshops throughout the weekend. Australia Metalcore group Prepared Like A Bride will be giving a live performance at Cafe Dekcuf this Friday night. Joining them on stage will be hardcore christian metal band Colossus, punk thrashers Illuminate Me, metal four-piece Darkness Divided, Gatineau trance/metal group Greta Knights and Cornwall metal project The Observer Effect.
This Friday night, the good people at Ottawa Showbox present experimental noise/punk/dance group Other Families, Ottawa dance punk trio Street Meat and experimental freak folk project Pith & The Parenchymas live at Mugshots.
This Friday night, Ottawa Explosion brings you dirty pop group Sonic Avenues, power pop band Mother’s Children and rock n’ roll outfit Heat all live on one stage at the intimate Pressed Cafe.
From Brooklyn, NY via Tel Aviv and Melbourne, Hank & Cupcakes will be bringing their Cash 4 Gold Tour to Ottawa this Friday night. The Brooklyn-based electro-disco/pop rock duo will be performing live at Zaphods alongside By The Lights and Fake Sick.
The burgeoning punk scene within our nation’s capital is hard to ignore. The people at Steam Whistle have certainly caught on and have launched an Indie Music Series called Unsigned as a result. This Friday night at House of Targ, the series will feature live sets by some of the best unsigned bands of the moment: HSY, The Yips, The Beverleys and Bonnie Doon.
Also this Friday, in collaboration with Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. and Operation Come Home, Amelia Curran will be celebrating the release of her CD with a live show. The Newfoundland Roots/Folk singer-songwriter will be presenting new material at St. Albans for the occasion.
Local r&b singer-songwriter Ivan will be giving a show at the Rainbow Bistro on November 21 as a fundraiser for the Distress Centre of Ottawa. Dubbed “From Dreams to Reality” the event will feature live sets by new Ottawa hip-hop trio Just Poets and local acoustic soul/r&b artist Rita Carter.
If you’re looking for a dance party this Friday night, 90s or Bust might just be the one for you. As long as you enjoy dancing to 90s hip-hop and r&b hits, then you’re good to go.
Toronto indie rock band The Beaches will be stopping at Mavericks this Saturday, November 22 as part of their 401 Road Trip. For their Ottawa show, they’ll share the stage with Vancouver pop group Bestie and Wakefield rock pop outfit The Strain.
With the holidays just around the corner, the craft fair season is in full swing to the delight of Christmas and diy lovers alike. This Saturday at the Bronson Centre, check out Capital Pop Up’s Handmade Show featuring local vegan, gluten-free goodies, beautiful handmade jewelry & independently designed clothing and baby apparel among other things. There’s something for everyone.
Another noteworthy craft market happening on Saturday is the Heart, Home & Handmade indie craft fair being held at the Glebe Community Centre. The semi-annual boutique event will showcase some of the National Capital Region’s talented handmade designers. It’s a modern twist on the conventional craft fair and admission is free!
Emmas Ringer is releasing the new album “GENERATIONS” with a launch party at Pressed this Saturday night. Come on out and support local live music and hear the alternative grunge band play the complete album live. Ottawa singer/songwriter Tariq Anwar and returning rockers The Bigmuffs are also on the bill for the night.
Halifax-based rock band Jessie Brown & The Black Diving will be live in concert at Zaphods on November 22. The East Coast four-piece will be sharing the stage with Edmonton baroque-pop project F&M.
This Saturday night at House of Targ, Ottawa underground hip-hop heavyweights Flight Distance will be giving a live performance in celebration of their “High Priests of Low Life” album release. For the occasion, the local rap trio will be joining forces with Buck N’ Nice, a relatively new local hip-hop duo who’ve also just released their debut album Us Versus Them. A guaranteed night of live rap at its finest.
Syracuse noise punk band Perfect Pussy, Ottawa post-punk group Big Dick and Ottawa noise punk project Blue Angel will be giving live sets at Gabba Hey this Saturday night. With names like these, how could it not be an amazing night of live music?
Sound Remedy, who’s no stranger to Ottawa, will be making his return at Ritual this Saturday night as part of the We Are The Dream Tour. The Chicago EDM DJ/Producer will be getting support from Mayro and Shake Music for your listening pleasure.
If you’re into metal, there certainly isn’t a shortage of it in the National Capital Region as it’s arguably the scene that strives the most in the Ottawa-Gatineau area. As a result, if you want to take in some live local metal this Sunday night, do yourself a favour and go to Dekcuf to check out The Thirteenth Floor, Abraxas, Here Comes Bigfoot, Walls Of Troy and City Limits. You won’t be disappointed.
Featuring 4 Boston hip hop legends, the Eastern Standard Time Tour will be touching down in Ottawa this Sunday night. With Termanology, Ed O.G., Reks and Akrobatik hitting the stage, this is sure to be a sick night of live music for fans of rap.
