If you enjoy visual arts, start your week at the Ottawa Art Battle this Tuesday, January 31 at Arts Court. The unique event organized across Canadian cities, brings 12 local painters together for a live painting competition held in front of an audience.
Ottawa heavy/thrash metal band Annihilator will be playing live at Mavericks this Tuesday night in celebration of the release of their Triple Threat DVD. The local veterans will be performing alongside Ottawa thrash metal groups Mortor and Exo-Vedate.
MEGAPHONO is back for a third year and this time it’s being held from February 1-3 at various locations across Ottawa-Gatineau. This music festival, meant to showcase the National Capital Region’s local talent and help our artists connect with music industry professionals, will feature a series of workshops, panels, networking opportunities and, of course, live shows, presenting a solid lineup of artists from the National Capital and beyond. The Ghomeshi Effect, a verbatim dance-theatre piece that tackles sexual violence in Canada and gives voice to survivors, premiered at The Gladstone from January 19- 28 to critical acclaim. Creator/Director Jessica Ruano and Choreographer Amelia Griffin have done an incredible job at bringing this important piece to life. If you missed it at The Gladstone, it will be presented at the Shenkman Arts Centre for one night only this Thursday, February 2.

The 2017 Gatineau Winter Beerfest is back this weekend and happening from February 3-4 in the Grand Hall at the Canadian Museum of History. This beer-lovers festival will feature a variety of artisanal beers made by micro-breweries from around the country coupled with yummy eats as well as conferences and workshops. This year, organizers promise bigger and better things for this popular and well-attended event.

The rhythm section formed in Ottawa by members of Pony Girl will be doing a winter residency at the Bank Street venue. The musicians be giving three sets a night, the third one beginning around midnight and you can expect to hear instrumentals, improv, fusion and hip hop.
