Why not take in some hardcore to kick off the week loud? This Monday night, the As The Season Change Tour is stopping by Mavericks in Ottawa and the show will feature live performances by Texas Post Hardcore group Everyone Dies in Utah, Lancaster Metalcore band One Year Later, Ottawa Metal/Hardcore project Dreamer/Deceiver, Ottawa Hard Rockers Kings Wake, Ottawa Metal formation Aphelion and Ottawa Metalcore outfit (ex O’Byrne) Violent Tides.
Cali skate/tech-punks Strung Out will be rocking Ritual Nightclub this Monday night as part of the Transmission To The Nation Tour. For the occasion, the band will be sharing the stage with Oklahoma rock n’roll group Red City Radio, Chicago hardcore outfit La Armada and Ottawa punk project Sidelines .
You know it’s a busy week when Ritual is open on a Tuesday. This May 5, catch Atlanta post-hardcore/rockers ’68, Sacramento post-hardcore band A Lot Like Birds, San Francisco roc group I The Mighty, Ottawa hardcore/metal project Footsteps to Gaia, and Ottawa post-hardcore newcomers Halfsleeper.
For the metal heads, be sure to make your way over to Mavericks this Tuesday to check out USA Death Metal band Misery Index live. The American group will be performing alongside Portland, USA Metal formation Lord Dying, Gatineau Death Metal 4-piece Insurrection and Ottawa metal project Accursed Spawn.
Also on Tuesday night, England shoegaze/indie band Swervedriver will be giving a live show at Zaphods with LA drug pop group Gateway Drugs, and Ottawa Ottawa indie emo outfit PINE.
Isobel Trigger is synth rocking their way across Canada as part of their “Up All Night” Tour and this Tuesday, May 5, they’ll be playing Ottawa at the Rainbow Bistro. For the occasion, the Victoria/Vancouver, BC alt pop/rock band will be joined on stage by dynamic Ottawa alt rock/shoegaze 4-piece Tindervox. Isobel Trigger will be performing live at Canadian Music Week in Toronto the day after Ottawa so be sure to come enjoy live music and show these talented up and coming artists some love.
This Wednesday night, Live Long and Targ On is going down at House of Targ, and the event will feature live performances by Ottawa/Brockville Neo-Nerd/Prog Rock band Double Experience, Sydney, Australia Indie Rock group Julia Why, Ottawa Psycho-Gypsy-Rock n’ Roll outfit The Sick Sick Sicks, Montreal Modern Rock formation The Maxwells and Ottawa Indie rockers Wood Lake.
Over at Mugshots this Thursday night, Ottawa Showbox presents a night of live music featuring sets by Saskatoon indie pop/shoegaze band Slow Down Molasses, Ottawa indie folk project Her Harbour and Ottawa fuzz pop rock group Saint Clare.
If you’re into new hip-hop, you should head over to Ritual on Thursday night to catch Post Malone perform live. The Dallas raised/LA based rapper, who recently released a new track titled “White Iverson” that’s been getting some buzz, will be joined on stage by VNCHY, Yuukon, Kofee, and Gutta King Chris. This is an early show so be sure to show up on time.
Ontario Scene is continuing for a second week, and as part of the event meant to celebrate Ontario arts, there will be a live show at House of Targ with Toronto punk-rock PUP, Ottawa post-punk duo Big Dick and Toronto indie-rock band Bond Girls. Only thing is, if you don’t already have tickets for this show, you probably won’t be able to get in because it’s sold out. Having said this, if you’re determined to go, you might be able to score tickets from people selling theres on the Facebook event page.
This Friday night at Avant-Garde Bar, Ottawa-based band Destroy Clocks will be having a CD Release show for its debut album Reanimalize. For the occasion, the local experimental band will be sharing the stage with special guests The Haig, The Young Offenders and Blue Hills.
CapCity Showdown Vol. 7, the Singers’ Edition is happening this Friday night inside City Nightclub. This performance competition will bring a slew of local r&b/pop/soul artists on the same stage to compete head to head for cash and prizes. This edition will feature competitors Dorcifemme, Alanna Sterling, Grace Defined, and Nesta among others as well as a headlining performance by Rita Carter.
As part of Ontario Scene this Friday night, there’s going to be an indie folk rock show at the Bronson Centre. The evening of music will feature live performances by Toronto roots-rock group The Sadies, Toronto indie-folk band The Wooden Sky and talented Ottawa indie folk musician Kalle Mattson.
This Friday night, local musician Ivan invites you to join him at Barrymores as he celebrates the release of his debut album We All Rise. This first effort, which represents ten years of dedication, effort and love, will be premiered during the event and the show will also feature special opening acts by local artists Soru, Flo and Rita Carter.

House music lovers rejoice! This Friday night, the Mercury Lounge presents legendary DJ Danny Krivit of Body & Soul/718 Sessions NYC. The talented and renowned DJ and Producer will be giving a live set inside the downtown Ottawa venue and for the occasion, he’ll be joined by resident DJ Trevor Walker to make sure your soulful house cravings are fulfilled.
Surfs up! Soda Shop is back at Mugshots this Friday night to bring you King of the Beach. DJs Gremmy & Ski Sheik will be providing Soda Shop classics along with the finest surf gems, girl group bubblegum and garage rock. For one night, it’ll feel like an endless summer dance party that you’ll wanna hold on to forever.
The May edition of Hip Hop Karaoke is going down this Friday night at the Elmdale with usual suspects DJ So Nice and Atherton. If you want to perform and impersonate Gangstarr by doing that Above The Clouds track you spent hours memorizing in front of the mirror, now’s your chance to show the National Capital Region what you’re made of.
This Saturday night at Mugshots, fresh faces and safe spaces converge to bring you essentially one big gorey sludgey pogo mess. The show will feature live sets by Toronto sludge band Antibody, Peterborough grind project G.O.D. and Ottawa pogo punks Ogresse.
Long Range Hustle will be stopping by Avant-Garde Bar this Saturday night as part of their album release tour. For the occasion, the Waterloo-based alt rock band will be giving a show with Ottawa funk, soul and r&b group Old Stereo and Ottawa rockers Fathers of Modern Rocketry.
This Saturday as part of Ontario Scene, the Mercury Lounge and the NAC present Wolf Gang Series Part 2, a night of music with a wild side where classical meets funk. The NAC is taking its orchestra out of its traditional space and putting a special spin on DJ Trevor Walker’s funk boogie set. This promises to be a very special night of live music!

If you’re looking for an intimate show in a cozy venue featuring talented local artists, be sure to head over to Pressed Cafe this Sunday night. London, Ontario rock n’ roll/folk/blues band Run Coyote will be performing live with Ottawa ambient/experimental folk musician Claude Munson and Barrie rock and soul 5-piece group.
