Just like last week, this November week is packed with a variety of fun events so I will jump right into my selection for the coming days.
To start off, the Museum of Civilization is launching it’s newest exhibition called Vodou this Wednesday, November 14 at 6:00 pm. The official opening includes a musical performance, inaugural speeches, Haitian-inspired food and drinks. Following the inauguration, guests will be invited to visit the exhibition, which offers a rare opportunity to better understand this complex spiritual tradition, its beliefs and rituals from the viewpoint of those who practise it.For more information, simply click on the below banner.
Starting on Thursday, November 15 and running until November 18 is the Ottawa International Storytelling Festival. The annual event, taking place at the Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts this year, will focus on the theme Naked Narrative: No Books. No Props. Just Stories. Festival-goers will have the opportunity to listen to some live storytelling as well as partake in workshops, a masterclass and an open mic. For the full program, simply click on the banner below.
This Thursday, November 15, is also the monthly edition of Hip Hop Karaoke at Babylon with DJ So Nice and Atherton. The hosts promise a night of fun with this twist on traditional karaoke that steps away from the conventional “mom n’ pop video screen bouncy ball read-a-long half-assed last-minute-plan-with-your-girlfriends-in-korea-town karaoke jam”. If you think you got what it takes to rap along to your favorite hip hop song, sign up for this Thursday! Check out all the details by clicking the poster below.
On Friday, November 16, the Mercury Lounge (who just turned 16 years old by the way) presents the North Wind Album Release with Flying Down Thunder and Rise Ashen. If you’re a fan of A Tribe Called Red and that unique fusion between traditional native music and modern dancefloor sounds, then this is an event you will want to attend. The 2012 Juno nominees will perform songs off of their latest album followed by a set from resident Lance Baptiste who’ll play soulful house til the early hours. Also this Friday, November 16, DJ So Nice and Atherton are hosting the Pop Off Party at Mugshots.
